Baker & Taylor and Red Cygnet Press Announce Winner of Writing Contest Baker & Taylor, Inc.( 04/04/2008 ) CHARLOTTE, North Carolina - April 4, 2008 -- Baker & Taylor, the world's largest book and entertainment distributor, announced today that Hana Khan of Irvine, CA was named the winner of the Baker & Taylor/Red Cygnet Press Young Author Writing Contest. Khan's entry, entitled Taylor's Birthday Party, will be published by Red Cygnet Press in August of 2008. Khan, age 9, will appear with Baker & Taylor at the ALA summer conference in Anaheim, CA in June 2008 for a book signing in their booth. "Red Cygnet is very excited to be able to extend our mission down to the younger grades," said Bruce Glassman, President and CEO of Red Cygnet Press. "It's been so gratifying to publish "undiscovered" talent at the college level, and now we can do it at the elementary level, too." Baker & Taylor and Red Cygnet Press co-sponsored a writing contest for kids ages 12 and under to create an original story based on Baker & Taylor's famous cat mascots. Red Cygnet, the publisher partner in the contest, is pairing Khan's winning story with illustrations by Mai S. Kemble to create a picture book for children ages 3 - 7.
